Rahul's paper, with contributions from Danni Landry and Alex Leffel (Hodges/Schaak group member), was recently accepted and published in ACS Nanoscience Au. In this paper, we report the first direct, solution-phase synthesis of LnCuOSe nanocrystals, which exhibit a complex intergrowth structure with alternating Cu–Se and Ln–O layers, for six lanthanide elements (La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, and Eu). Our approach uses a lanthanide–selenium coordination complex that decomposes to form anisotropic “nanoflowers” through a Cu₂Se-templated mechanism. These nanocrystals are thermally and structurally distinct from bulk analogs, showing evidence for quantum confinement and anisotropic thermal behavior.

Read all about it here. Great work, Rahul!
